This project involved students collaboratively creating an aleatoric composition that functioned as an homage to John Cage's Water Walk. And included research and discussions on the history of avant-garde theatre and performance by artists such as fluxus artist Ben Patterson, choreographer Merce Cunnigham, and theater practitioner and playwright Bertel Brecht.

The students conceived of the project’s composition, live performance and installation, employing a system of chance to structure the piece. Titled Home Walk, the work utilized everyday objects from the home, transforming them into instruments to create an environment where the ordinary became a vital part of the sonic composition.

The performance was precisely timed, with students applying chance methods to determine the sequence of actions throughout the piece. Walking was integrated into the composition as both an action and a sound-producing component.

Through this project, students gained hands-on experience in performance, collaborative decision-making, and the integration of non-traditional instruments and sounds. In engaging with established avant-garde traditions, students critically examined the ongoing relationship between sound, structure, and the everyday, poking at conventional structures, and asking questionsof the role of the artist, audience, and medium.
