Rotoscope Animations
Intro to Digital Drawing, University of Minnesota, Spring 2020 and Spring 2022

For this rotoscoping project students were given a 10 second clip from the iconic “My Heart Will Go On” Titanic scene or the “Star Crossed Lovers” Romeo and Juliet scene. Each clip consisted of about 25 stills at a frame rate of 10 frames per second. This frame rate was set quite low, making the video slightly little choppy, to accommodate for the labor intensive nature of the project. Using the animation technique of rotoscoping, students redrew each still based on their own thematic design. Each scene was stitched back together with the others making a complete re-imagining of the original. This is a great introductory project for basic animation, rotoscoping, causality, and digital drawing using photoshop and a Wacom drawing tablet.
